Surfcoast Skin Cancer clinic prides itself on quality of care in a comfortable setting. Our specially trained skin cancer GPs conduct all skin checks and perform surgical procedures for definitive treatment of any skin cancers that are identified.
Our experienced skin cancer GPs offer full body skin checks, and if medically necessary, biopsy and excision of skin cancers. Some early skin cancers can be treated with topical therapy.
We also offer total body photography (TBP) which is a great way to monitor changes in your skin over time.
Good question. The need and frequency of skin checks depends on many factors. These can include, but are not limited to, past history of skin cancer, family history of skin cancer, previous UV exposure, skin type, medications and other medical issues.
Our specially trained skin GPs perform our skin checks.
As the name suggests, a full body skin check involves examination of all the skin in order to detect skin cancer. This usually requires the patient to undress to their underwear and lie under a sheet so that one area can be examined at a time.
Your consent will always be sought so please feel free to discuss an alternative approach that you would be more comfortable with, including having a chaperone.
We recommend you come without make-up, nail polish or spray tan for the most reliable examination of your skin
Our skin checks are conducted in a 30 minute consultation where your specific risk factors are discussed prior to a full body skin check. The cost of this is $170 with a Medicare rebate of $87.10. The out-of-pocket cost is therefore $82.90.
If you require biopsy or excision of a skin lesion, costs may vary depending on the nature of the lesion and you will be informed of the costs prior to the procedure.
If you have the misfortune of being diagnosed with melanoma, we are here to help. Some melanomas can be managed in our rooms in Torquay. Should you require your melanoma to be managed in hospital, we can facilitate an onward referral. Either way, we’re here to guide you through your melanoma journey without the need to be referred to another service.
Yes. We offer Total Body Photography (TBP) that enables us to keep a photographic record of your skin spots on our specialised software. This is a great way to keep and eye on your spots over time and treat when required.
